Following the Commission communication of 25 March 2021 on an action plan for the development of organic production (COM(2021)0141), the AGRI Committee is currently preparing an own initiative report on an EU action plan for organic agriculture (2021/2239(INI)). With this end in view, a workshop on “Developing organic farming and assessing its impact on the EU food sector: economic implications and opportunities for organic production in the EU” took place in Brussels during the AGRI Committee meeting held on 17 March 2022. It provided useful input on the prospects and developments for organic farming in the EU, presented the objectives and governance of the “Eco-districts” pilot project and provided up-to-date information on how Member States plan to support organic farming through their national strategic plans.
