How can the cohesion policy support gender equality in the European Union? On 4 November, Manuela Samek Lodovici from Istituto per la Ricerca Sociale made a presentation of the study “Gender Dimension of the EU Cohesion Policy”. The study analyses how EU cohesion policy addresses the gender dimension and the principle of gender equality. It focused on the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF) and the ESF in the period 2014-2020. The researchers had overviewed Partnership Agreements and Operational Programmes in eight EU Member States and undertook interviews with different stakeholders. The study results highlight gaps between programming (where gender issues are usually well addressed) and implementation of cohesion policy. It provides also the recommendations for the current work on the cohesion policy in the programming period 2021-2027. The Chair of the REGI-committee, Younous Omarjee, thanked both the authors of the study and the Policy Department for their excellent work.
