[Digest] Study presentation: Training and social security schemes for fishers – State of play and perspectives in the EU

The presentation of the study took place on 23 January 2024 and focused on two specific aspects of the social dimension of the CFP:

• the training and certification systems for fishers currently in place in the EU, and the state of play of the mutual recognition of certificates of competency by Member States.
• the first EU-wide overview of the social security schemes applied by Member States to cover EU fishers.

Based on the new insights provided by the study, the presentation discussed the impact of the current situation on the mobility of fishers, on the fishing sector’s working risks and security and ultimately on the attractiveness of the fishing sector to the EU workforce.
