[Digest] Study presentation: Modal Shift in European Transport – a way forward

The study provides a comprehensive analysis of the progress and potential of modal shift from road to more sustainable transport modes, with respect to the policy objectives set in the 2011 White Paper on transport. The study focuses both on passenger and freight transport, highlighting main barriers and factors that are hampering a more effective modal shift at EU level, and providing policy recommendations for the way forward.

A presentation of the study took place on 24 July 2019 and focused on the following issues:

• Main developments observed over the last 20 years concerning modal share and network development;
• Outlook on the future prospects of shifting transport from road to other modes;
• Assessment of the main barriers;
• Recommendations for policy makers.

The presentation was followed by questions from the Members and a stimulating debate.
