The workshop took place on 3 November 2025. The following three topics were on the agenda:

  • Vulnerable groups – particularly the housing affordability challenges faced by young people, households with children, and older people.
  • Short-term rentals – their impacts, regulation, and relevant legal developments
  • Construction and renovation – opportunities and challenges to ensure affordability in the sector

The presentations in the workshop built upon the four recent publications by the Policy Department for the HOUS committee. The four experts discussed their key research findings, and presented recommendations to mitigate the factors that negatively impact housing affordability, and the challenges people face. The recommendations addressed EU actions and legislation, but also highlighted the crucial role of national and regional policy/legal frameworks in tackling the housing crisis.

The thematic sessions were followed by questions from Members and stimulating debates.
