The workshop took place on 28 November 2023 and focused on the following topics:
- Main trends in methane emissions in the EU;
- Impact of mitigating agricultural emissions on climate change;
- Implications of methane as a short-living gas when designing global emission mitigation policies in the agri-food sector.
The experts underlined the contribution of methane, a short-lived greenhouse gas, to the global warming and explained differences between metrics like GWP 100 and GWP* which can be used to set objectives in policies and determine optimal mitigation options.
The workshop was followed by questions from the Members who stressed the need for a global policy and engagement in methane emissions reduction and the importance to protect the European farming.
