Committee on Transport and Tourism – Study requested by TRAN Committee, commissioned and managed by the Policy Department – “Relaunching transport and tourism in the EU after COVID-19”
Brussels, 15 March 2021
The presentation of the research results took place on 15 March 2021 and focused on the following topics:
- Overview of the impacts of COVID-19 on transport and tourism, looking at both the socio-economic repercussions on the two sectors, the implications in terms of traffic for passengers and freight, the changes in travel patterns and consumers’ behavior.
- Review of EU and national policy actions adopted since the COVID-19 outbreak ranging from short-term financial support to health and safety recommendations to operators and travelers.
- Challenges and opportunities emerging from the crisis, in particular the development of digital and sustainable solutions and a display of good practices already put in place in transport and tourism.
- Policy recommendations to help transport and tourism recover, in particular the need for better coordination between Member States, clear and common protocols at EU level on health and safety, and financial support to protect jobs and the survival of SMEs
