The litter generated by finfish and shellfish aquaculture in the Mediterranean Sea could represent 2.4% – 9.2% of the beach litter, 11.3% of the floating litter and 11.6% – 14.8% of the litter on the Mediterranean seafloor. The data obtained from the beaches (Sandra et al., 2020) are corroborated by the results obtained from the four initiatives presented here as the fisheries and aquaculture related items collected represented respectively 5.3% (DeFishGear), 5.2% (BLUEISLANDS), 10% (ACT4LITTER) and 4.6% (Marine LitterWatch) of the beach litter
