Deliver a study on the 'The role of commodity traders in shaping agricultural markets'


The primary aim of the project is to provide a better understanding of the role and importance of global commodity traders. To reach that goal, the study will present the largest commodity trading companies and provide an overview of their significance and market power, analyse the major trends that have reshaped the sector in recent years and outline the challenges that they present for the food system and suggest possible options for increased accountability and transparency of the commodity traders’ activities.

It will focus mainly on the four largest commodity trading companies, collectively known as the ABCD companies (Archer Daniels Midland, Bunge, Cargill and Louis Dreyfus) but shall also include in its scope other commodity traders.


This study of around 50-60 pages (maximum) and shall be delivered to the European Parliament's Agricultural Committee (COMAGRI) in January/February 2024.
