The workshop took place on 16 May 2022 and focused on the following topics:

  • Plane and Train: Getting the balance right
  • Rail, backbone of a multimodal transport system
  • What could the future air-rail multimodal mobility look like?
  • Medium and long distance passenger and freight transport: environmental performance and determinants of modal choice

The presentations looked at the comparative sustainability assessment of the different modes of transport, especially for plane and train. It also tackled modal choice barriers and expectations for passengers and freight services, in order to draw future scenarios in terms of multimodal integration.

The presentations were followed by questions from the Members and a stimulating debate, where the challenge of creating an integrated and smart system where users could book the entire trip based on the best choice of price, travel time and low emissions, was highlighted.
