Deliver a study on "Animal welfare of farmed fish"

The overall objective of this research is to provide an overview of the current state of play at EU and Member State level of existing governance measures in place ensuring welfare of farmed finfish throughout their entire lifecycle, both for freshwater aquaculture and mariculture.

Based on scientific knowledge of animal welfare of farmed finfish and the potential impacts of different fish farming systems in Europe on the environment, it shall also make a critical assessment of the current veterinary measures applied, and the production and use of compound feeding stuffs.

It shall further provide assessments on the coverage and implementation of animal welfare standards for farmed fish by existing legislations or guidelines.

The research project is to provide at least four case studies on freshwater aquaculture and mariculture.

This study of around 50-60 pages shall be delivered to the European Parliament's Committee on Fisheries (PECH) by June 2022.

Minimum requirements: the selected research institute, consortium, or experts shall bring together a team of minimum 4 to 6 experts with relevant professional background on scientific analysis of animal welfare matters during aquaculture production of finfish species in Europe. Some of these experts should have an educational background in veterinary medicine, marine biology, law and social sciences.
