Subject of contract
Deliver a study on "Emerging technologies transforming the transport sector & Actions needed to prepare transport infrastructure for these changes" - The aim of the project is to evaluate the impact of emerging technologies in the transport sector, including the needs in the transport infrastructure. The study is to be delivered for Members of the TRAN Committee in time for a Committee meeting in/after November 2020.
The paper will:
1. provide a comprehensive and detailed view of the emerging technologies (e.g. digitalisation, V2X connectivity, blockchain, big data, artificial intelligence) driving the transformation of the transport sector. This will include a detailed description of expected future mobility solutions,
2. include a detailed description and analysis of current impact, trends, and future challenges/opportunities concerning the different transport modes and the overall mobility sector, caused by these technologies,
3. pay special attention on the impact of new technologies in transport infrastructure and how the needs of this infrastructure will evolve,
4. include solutions to accommodate these new technologies and the infrastructure needs in order to minimise disruption and maximise benefits in the transport sector,
5. reflect on the current EU strategy as well as EU and national legislation on this topic, and assess whether EU action is necessary and a direction change is needed, considering also the context of the Green Deal,
6. provide recommendations on how EU legislation/policies would enhance implementation of these new technologies to optimise the benefits for Europe..
