An extraordinary meeting of the AGRI Committee took place on Monday 15 October 2018, from 15:15 to 17:45. The main purpose of this meeting was to present the conclusions of a set of research papers commissioned by the AGRI Committee Policy Department B regarding the future of the Common Agricultural Policy.
This workshop on the “The Common Agricultural Policy beyond 2020: appraisal of the EC legislative proposals” was structured in three parts:
- The CAP Strategic Plans beyond 2020 : assessing the architecture and governance issues in order to achieve the EU-wide objectives;
- The CAP support beyond 2020: assessing the future structure of direct payments and the rural development interventions in the light of the EU agricultural and environmental challenges;
- The sectoral approach in the CAP beyond 2020 and possible options to improve the EU food value chain.
The presentation of the related studies by their authors set off a fruitful debate with the Committee members, who welcomed these studies as a valuable contribution to the EP’s ongoing work on the Commission’s legislative proposals.
